Can I just tell you...I am tired. Really freaking tired. I don't think I've ever done so much in 24 hours. We started out from Watertown, CT around 10:00 at night. We hoped to get the thirteen hour drive done in a night..and we did. My part of the drive wasn't too bad. I ended up on a two lane road with no perpendicular roads and no cars for thirty miles. It was dark, long and incredibly creepy. I'm sure if it were light out it would have been absolutely beautiful. It would go on for thirty miles with nothing, and then out of no where there'd be a random town that could rival Times Square in terms of light use. Other than that..it was just a whole lotta driving in darkness.
We arrived in Chicago around noon on Friday, found a non valet parking garage, and took our bikes on a twenty mile long bike path following Lake Michigan. We followed the path and stopped to eat at a little place that had amazing fries, called Flamingo. Then we made our way to Navy Pier which was actually really disappointing. Just a lot of tourist traps. We then walked around Millennium Park. Millennium Park is known for its sculptures. We took pictures in front of the famous stainless steal bean and then made out way to the Taste o' Chicago which was basically just a ton of food and other kinds of vendors from around Chicago. After that, we rode a little more of the bike trail (not the whole 20 miles) and headed back to our car.Leaving Chicago was the worst. Not only was there traffic, but since we were traveling on 90 WEST and the sun was setting on a cloudless sky...the drive was almost unbearable. We drove for three hours and ended up at a Best Western in Portage, Wisconsin.
